THE STORY OF THE MAGI:
Magi are popularly referred to as “wise men” and “kings”. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child, Jesus, with his Mother, Mary. Then, they bowed down and worshiped Him. They opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. The wise men traveled from distant lands just merely following the miraculous shining star to find the Savior. And when they finally found Him, they not only worshipped Him, they also give gifts.
STORY OF ST. NICHOLAS:
St. Nicholas is said to be the inspiration of modern Santa Claus. He lived during the third and fourth centuries in the small village, now known as Turkey. He grew up from a wealthy family but his parents both died when he was still young. His deep faith led him to take Jesus’ words to heart. He set out to sell what he owned and t gives the money to the unfortunate people. He spent the rest of his life caring for widows, orphans, sick people and children, and also spending his fortunes away. His life work is all ‘bout “giving”. ^_^
Those two stories are said to be the reasons or origins of ‘gift-giving’ during Christmas.
